A Melody for My Son

by Kimberly Williams, Queenie Edwards, Roslyn Green, Juan Olivares, and Pei-yeh Tsai

My beautiful black boy. I saw God breathe his creativity all over you, my son. You were a true work of art in the making. I cried and prayed for the best for you. Thank you, son. I love you, Terrence. You would smile at me and chase all my rainy days away. Terrence, I would give my last breath to give you life, if I could. Thank you, Jesus, for rescuing my son, and carrying him up to glory on the wings of your love. Until I meet you, Terrence, in heaven, I will hold on to God for my life, for he is my personal bravery. Son, I thank you, for your heart so true. Terrence, I love you.

My beautiful black boy
I called you “Sunshine.”
A true work of art
You lit up my world and sky

I wish for just one day
Where God would let me see you
You left too soon to say “goodbye”
I never wanted to

He groomed you with miracles
He blessed you with gifts
He graced me with a true son
Then carried you on with him

I wish for just one day
Where God would let me see you
You left too soon to say “goodbye”
I never wanted to

I wish for just one day
Where God would let me see you
You left too soon to say “goodbye”
I never wanted to
Lord, I wish for just one day
Where God would let me see you
You left to soon to say “goodbye”
Good bye, I love you, goodbye
