My Keepsake

by Tonya Burch and Joshua Fink

I think about my son Deontae every day,
His smile, always in my thoughts.
People always say, “where did that old man come from,
His old soul, always polite?”

I know I could never have the life I had before,
Now I have to try to live my life without my son,
And that’s a struggle for me every day.

All I have now is his memory,
That is my keepsake,
From which I’ll never part.

Please pray for me,
It’s been eight years since he was killed.
I’m hurt, hurting so bad,
It’s unbearable at times. I don’t understand,
Why things like this have to happen.

All I have now is his memory,
That is my keepsake,
From which I’ll never part.

God has him in His arms,
God has him in His arms,
God continues to take care of him now,
But I will always have him in my heart.

All I have now is his memory,
That is my keepsake,
From which I’ll never part.
